19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with former coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
It is the player's first trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.
Victory also means the Russian has won 21 titles at 21 different competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.
"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.
The player's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.
But the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.
He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.
The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour championship, took control to force a final set.
Moutet defended 4 initial chances in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, he earned the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
